"What is SWC": General Messaging

Wondering what a Scouters' Winter Campout actually is?

It's a full weekend where the adult leaders get to be the Scouts for a change. You'll spend a few days outdoors with a couple hundred other leaders, taking on games and events that lean on real Scouting and camping know-how. There's no classroom and no formal schedule of sessions. The learning happens on its own as you work through challenges next to people who lead units just like yours, and you'll head home with a notebook full of fresh ideas to try with your own group.

It's also a great excuse to get comfortable camping when the temperature drops. If cold-weather camping has always felt a bit intimidating, this is a friendly place to try it and learn from others who have been doing it for decades. SWC was founded in 1968 and has been helping leaders get their units back outdoors - rain, snow, or shine.

Come join us for the Scouters' Winter Campout — January 8–10, 2027, at Woodruff Scout Reservation. This year's theme is "Lead On! A Scouter's Life for Me," a weekend of adventure, hands-on training, games, Scout spirit, and fellowship built just for adult leaders. This unique training gives adults an opportunity to experience a camporee from the scout's perspective, helping us build a better, more engaging program for the youth.

We camp as a patrol of 6–10 registered adult leaders, so we need you to help round out our crew. It's a flat $35 a head, and campsites are assigned in the order patrols register — so the sooner we sign on, the better our spot.

Registration opens September 8th. Reply and let's get our patrol on the roster! For more information, you can visit the event site: swcbsa.org.
